Theatres and sanctuaries in the north-western provinces of the Roman Empire

Through a multidisciplinary approach (enquires based on material, archaeological, architectural, literary, epigraphic and historical sources, bibliography) this project will be centered on theatres and sanctuaries in the north-western provinces of the Roman Empire.

By investigating such archaeological complexes at least from two different perspectives (the relationship between spectacle buildings and sacred areas, and the topography of the places), the research will study the destination of such buildings and complexes, to understand the timing, the ways of, and reasons for, their interaction, from an architectural and ritual point of view, as well as from a spatial and functional point of view.
