The theatre of Iaitai: from knowledge to a sustainable fruition

The project revolves around the idea that Graeco-Roman theatres are products of history, both ancient and modern (excavations, publications, restorations, adaptations to modern fruition), and are suitable of enhancement and actualisation through an appropriate and reflexive use of technology (esp. ICT and virtual reality tools), within a general frame of scientific soundness and sustainability.

It will deal with the theatre of the ancient Iaitai, a Hellenistic building which has been object of excavations, studies on architectural typology, and of restorations, though a full analysis of its archaeological remains is still missing.

The research will gain a more accurate understanding of the monument, also by producing a full three-dimensional documentation. It will lead to hyper-realistic virtual restorations of the original state of the building, useful for scientific and educational purposes, and to develop a plan for sustainable fruition.
